Ownership, Confidentiality, and Intellectual Rights

Anything that is ours to give is yours. There are certain things that we don’t own and so can’t give away.

There are essentially four categories of intellectual property (IP) that come into play to create your website.

1. Content or Data You’ve Provided:

  • This includes any data, written material, or imagery provided by you for use on your website.
  • Geeks on the Beach will respect your IP and makes no claims to it whatsoever.
  • Please let us know if you require a signed confidentiality agreement before handling your content or data.

2. Geeks on the Beach Creations:

  • This encompasses everything we create during the website development process, including code, designs, graphics, and written content.
  • Any work we produce as part of your project belongs to you. If, for any reason, we part ways, this work remains under your ownership without the need for additional notice or permission.

3. Open Source Software:

  • The third category involves software and code covered by open-source licenses. Notably, this includes WordPress, the platform on which we construct most client websites.
  • We don’t own open-source software, but you don’t have to worry about ownership concerns either, as it operates under open-source principles.

4. Licensed Software & Content:

  • The fourth and final category consists of items that are neither open source nor created by Geeks on the Beach.
  • Plugins and licenses that fall into this category are explored in more detail in this document’s Third-Party Code/Plugins/Software/APIs section.
  • In short, this software is created and owned by a 3rd party but licensed for use on your website.
  • This may include photographs or videos obtained through services like iStockPhoto.com, as well as software or plugins we install to enhance your website’s functionality.
  • Geeks on the Beach doesn’t own this software, but we handle the necessary licensing before installation.
